Progressing from a young lawyer to a director

Nathan knew he wanted to study at university after finishing high school. At the time he was considering a few different options including law, international studies and physiotherapy. “I eventually chose to study law as I enjoyed English and legal studies at high school. As I worked through my degree, I started to consider what sort of career I wanted in law and whether I wanted to live and work in the city or a regional area. Having grown up in a regional area, I decided towards the end of my degree that I wanted to practice law in a regional location as I would be close to family and there were also some fantastic career opportunities. Nathan studied at Deakin University in Geelong and completed a double degree in law and international studies. “I really enjoyed living in Geelong and meeting heaps of new people. Geelong still had a regional feel to it but was close to Melbourne, the Surf Coast and Bellarine Peninsula which were all great to explore.”

“In my first job I was given a lot of responsibility very early on which was challenging but also forced me to quickly develop my skills as a young lawyer. I quickly progressed to running a practice group within the office which involved supervising and leading a team.”

Nathan joined Beck Legal in 2019 and over time further developed his leadership by supervising and managing a practice group within the firm. “I was promoted as a principal solicitor in 2021 and as a partner in 2023. I like that our focus is about working together as a team, and I enjoy mentoring and supporting the growth and professional development of my colleagues.”
